Fly little angels,
on wings you've so long dreamed of—
your destinies always to soar.

Your twinkling eyes so much
like the stars you now dance among,
perhaps more beautiful.

Your young souls
as pure as fresh fallen snow
and untouched by harsh reality for so long.

Although your times were short
they were well spent
and full of happiness and magic.

Blessed were those who met you,
who had the chance to love you,
whose hearts your smile touched.

I promise never to forget you—
those I never knew,
those missed by many loved ones.

Memories forever cherished,
glowing faces now famous.
Never to be forgotten.

On crystal wings,
and remembered dreams,
little angels, fly.
Anyone who has been following the news lately, especially in the U.S., has heard the terrible and disturbing story of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in Connecticut. My school has decided to contribute paper cranes to Newtown in remembrance, to show our love.
I wanted to do something on my own, too, though. When I read the news Friday (December 14th) I was shattered. For me, it's natural to turn to writing to express how I feel, but it was too much for me to handle at once.
Finally, a few days since, and after reading a succession of articles including a transcript of the Eulogies spoken at one boy's funeral and another depicting a farewell letter written by a 6 year old to his best friend who was killed, I decided I was never going to be able to handle the situation with a straight face. If I wanted to express how I felt it was as good a time as any.

Here you have it.

I don't think it's the most amazing thing ever. Honestly it's not even something I'd consider one of my better works. But it is what it is, and it expresses how I feel.

I only wish these children had been able to touch my life as they touched so many others. Now they can fly like the little angels they were on earth.

This is very well done and honors the little ones lost as well as the families left behind.
